ANTH 350 - Anthropology of Gender

Description: Explores the primary category of social difference into which humans are universally socialized, which is the gendered nature of women’s and men’s experiences in the world from an anthropological perspective. An introduc­tion to cross-cultural experiences of gender, and the social constructions of gender. Readings focus on the intersection of race, class, sexuality, and gender, and the impact on gender of technology, colonization, globaliza­tion, and the nation-state. Considers the experiences of men and women around the world from various frameworks, including reproductive, social, economic, post-colonial, and post-structural.
