CRIM 205 - Policing and the Community Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3
Prerequisite: CRIM 101 or CRIM 102 Description: Introduces the history, function, and role of law enforcement in American communities. Emphasizes the multi-dimensional work of policing with discussions about strategies employed to combat and prevent crime. Examines organizational and personal factors of policing, as well as their connections to the structure and composition of the communities serviced. Stresses the concepts of Principled Criminal Justice and Police Legitimacy, presenting the opportunity for a Criminal Justice Training Center Certificate of Training. Offers prevailing and dissenting perspectives about current issues in policing.
