ENVE 200 - Foundations of Geology

Restriction: Geoscience majors/minors, environmental engineering, energy management, anthropology, geography, and regional planning majors, biology majors (all tracks), or instructor permission
Description: Introduces the geological sciences, including the study of the Earth’s interior; plate tectonics; minerals and crystallography; igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks and their cycling; geologic time; crustal deformation and. Laboratory exercises will emphasize hand-on learning of basic geology skills including mineral and rock identification, understanding the geometry of subsurface geologic structures, and topographic and geologic map reading. (Also offered as GEOS 200 . These courses may be substituted for each other and be used interchangeably for D/F repeats but may not be counted for duplicate credit.)
