MAED 611 - Algebra for Secondary Teachers Credits: 3 Prerequisite: Appropriate major or permission of the instructor. In this advanced course, practicing teachers will explore essential components in algebra, attain a deep understanding of the content that they will teach, develop the habits of the mind of a mathematical thinker, identify effective ways to help secondary students to build mathematical understanding, and demonstrate flexible, interactive styles of teaching. Topics will include equations and systems of equations, inequalities, polynomials, structures, fitting lines to data, and matrices. Furthermore, students will examine real-world applications, standards and curricula, and when appropriate, incorporate technology to enhance learning.
