Prerequisite: BIOL 104 or BIOL 203 or BIOL 240 Introduces the functions and mechanisms of biological clocks and rhythms in humans and animals, focusing primarily on circadian, or daily, rhythms. Examines how biological clocks keep time and influence behavior and physiology from the molecular level. Explains how circadian rhythms control sleep-wake and other important neurological functions to optimize biological fitness. Explores the consequences of disrupted circadian timing on physical and psychological health and performance.
