HIST 338 - The History of Iran Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing, 3cr of college history Focuses on aspects of Iranian history from the Achaemenid period until the present that are significant for the formation of modern Iranian identity. Uses primary sources, secondary readings, literature, and film to analyze the development of Iranian identity as well as modern perceptions of Iran. Emphasis on ancient Iranian culture and religion, the story of Iranian wars with the Greeks and Romans, how Iran became Muslim, and the development of contemporary Iranian religion and politics.
