HIST 422 - History Museums and Historic Sites: Theory and Practice Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing, 3cr of college history Description: An introduction to the history of museums and historic sites. Focuses on the relationship between history and public audiences, on the theory and practice of telling stories through museums, historic sites, and living history. Introduces the tools that public historians use to interpret the past, explores key dilemmas in public interpretation and community collaboration, and examines contemporary models on how to reach audiences in ways that make history resonant and meaningful to them. None of the Public History courses (HIST 420 , HIST 421 , 422, or HIST 423 ) may be counted towards the BSEd— Social Studies Education/History Track. Only one may be counted towards the BA—History or the BA—History/Pre-law Track.
