MATH 101 - Foundations of Mathematics

Prerequisite: MATH 083 or appropriate placement score or permission of the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department chairperson.
Description: Introduces logic and a mathematical way of analyzing problems; develops an appreciation for the nature, breadth, and power of mathematics and its role in a technological society; introduces useful mathematics or mathematics related to student interests. Possible topics include logic, problem solving, number theory, graph theory, linear programming, probability, intuitive calculus, mathematics of finance, mathematics of voting, game theory.
Note: May not be taken after successfully completing a math course with a larger course number (other than MATH 103 or MATH 150 or MATH 217) without written Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department chairperson approval.
