Mathematics/Actuarial Science and Statistics, BS


Program Code: MATH-ACTU

The program for an actuarial science and statistics major in the Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics prepares students for the actuarial and finance professions. In comparison with other mathematics majors, students in actuarial science take additional course work in finance, economics, and statistics preparing them to complete the first two professional actuarial exams and to pursue employment in the areas of insurance and investment. (1) Should pass SOA Exam P or Exam FM.

(2) “B” or higher grades in course work that carries Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) from the Society of Actuaries (required for SOA credential).

(3) English Composition II requirement is fulfilled by the department’s Writing Plan.

(4) Students should take 2 credits of MATH 480 in Spring of junior year and 1 credit in Spring of senior year.

(5) Three credits of internship will be applied to the major. Additional credits may count as free electives.
