Program Code: MAED

The program leading to the BSEd degree with a major in mathematics education prepares the student for teaching mathematics at one of two different concentrations. The secondary mathematics concentrations prepares the student for teaching mathematics in grades 7-12. The middle level education concentration prepares the student for teaching grades 4-8 with an emphasis in mathematics. Graduates from the program also have the option to continue their formal education at the graduate level or work in government or industry.

(1) English Composition II requirement is fulfilled by the department’s Writing Plan.

(2) Students in the middle level concentration take HIST 205  ; Secondary concentration take HIST 196  , HIST 197  , or HIST 198 .

(3) Students in the secondary mathematics specialization take MATH 125  and students in the middle level specialization take MATH 121 .

(4) Students in the secondary mathematics specialization take PSYC 101  and students in the middle level specialization take ECON 101  or ECON 121 ; GEOG 101 , GEOG 102 , GEOG 104 ; and PLSC 101  or PLSC 111 .

(5) Students in the middle level specialization take BIOL 103  or BIOL 104  or BIOL 106  /BIOL 116 ; and SCI 105  and SCI 115  . 

(6) The following courses are excluded MATH 100 , MATH 101 , and MATH 150 . This course can be used as part of the 6crs of math needed to apply for Step 1 of Teacher Education.

(7) The course meets the PDE requirement of 4cr in geoscience for Middle- Level Education Grades 4-8 certification.
