The Pan-African Studies Certificate expands your knowledge of people of African descent throughout the world. Through courses in various disciplines, you will explore the many cultures, contributions, and challenges of African-descended peoples, from pre-colonial African societies to present day America. This Certificate will heighten your sensitivity to cultural diversity and prepare you to be a globally-minded professional and citizen.

Category A: Exclusively Pan-African Focused 3-9 cr
A minimum of 3 credits from Category A is required.
Students must complete 12 credits to earn a Pan-African Studies Certificate. In addition to the one required course, PNAF 131, at least one course (3 credits) must come from Category A: Exclusively Pan-African-Focused courses. The remaining courses may come from either Category A or Category B: Substantially Pan-African-Focused courses. In addition, special topics, independent study, study abroad, and internship courses may be applied to either category with the approval of the program coordinator.
Category B: Substantially Pan-African Focused: 0-6 cr
0-6 credits from Category B may be taken to fulfill the 9 required controlled electives.
Because their content may vary, courses from Category B must be approved by the coordinator of Pan-African Studies to count for the certificate.
