Biology/Ecology, Conservation, and Evolutionary Biology, BS

The Ecology, Conservation, and Evolutionary Biology (ECEB) concentration includes all core biology courses and a selection of related courses that focus on ecology, evolution, and environmental science. Student must complete broad training in the sciences and mathematics. The concentration is designed to provide flexibility to allow pursuit of specialized interests within ECEB, including minors in other environmental disciplines (Applied Statistics, Geology, Geography, Regional Planning, and Sustainability). Course requirements for professional certification by the Ecological Society of America (Certified Associate Ecologist) and/or the Wildlife Society (Certified Wildlife Biologist) can be met within this concentration. This concentration prepares students for pursuing advanced degrees or employment in areas related to ecology and environmental sciences at universities, government, and private companies.

Crimson Core: 40-41cr


As outlined in the Crimson Core Requirements  with the following specifications:

Quantitative Reasoning & Data Analysis: 3-4cr


Scientific Reasoning: 4cr


Major: 39-40cr


Controlled Ecology Electives: 6cr


No more than 6cr total from Independent Study (482), Special Topics (481), or Internship (493) applies to major; excess applied as free electives. Other appropriate BIOL courses at 200- level and above (excluding Crimson Core courses) may be substituted with permission of the advisor and the Biology Department chair in advance of taking the course. Select two courses (6 credits) from the following:

Other Science Requirements: 6-7cr


Controlled Electives: 13-15cr


Select 13-15 credits from the following (cannot include Crimson Core Elective, or courses counting toward Other Science Requirements). At least 9 credits must be 200-level or higher.

Free Electives: 20-22cr


Free electives may be used towards a minor or certificate in Geography/Regional Planning, Sustainability, Applied Statistics, Chemistry, Forensic Biosciences, Environmental Microbiology, Foreign Language, or other areas of interest. Excluding prerequisite, cognate, Crimson Core, college core courses, no more than 2 Majors courses can be shared between a major and minor.
