Sociology/Human Services, BA


The Sociology Human Services program seeks to help students understand the causes of many problems that plague modern societies, such as poverty, racial discrimination, substance use, and intimate partner violence. It is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become practitioners in various human services areas (e.g., juvenile delinquency, medical sociology, victim advocacy, disabilities, and family sociology).

As outlined in the Crimson Core Requirements   with the following specifications:

  • Sociology majors must take an additional 3 credits from the Oral Communication competency.
  • Sociology majors must take one 100-level HIST class (HIST 101, HIST 196, HIST 198).

Total Degree Requirements: 120


(1) SOCI 151 credits counted in Crimson Core, not in the major.

(2) SOCI 391  and SOCI 392  must be taken before SOCI 493 . Generally, SOCI 493  is taken in the junior or senior year. Students can elect to take SOCI 493 during the fall, spring, or summer semesters. 

(3) Each course in the Sociology major may only be counted once (i.e. a course taken as a required course cannot be counted as an elective course).
