Biology/Pre-veterinary, BS

Program Code: BIOL-PVET

Provides a science-focused program that prepares students for Veterinary school and other allied-health and research-focused careers working with animals. Students have opportunities to explore more focused areas of interest such as Animal Behavior, Wildlife and Conservation Biology, or Microbiology.

Crimson Core: 40cr


As outlined in the Crimson Core Requirements  with the following specifications:

Quantitative Reasoning Data Analysis: 4cr


Scientific Reasoning: 4cr


Crimson Core Elective: 7cr


Major: 44-45


Controlled Biology Electives: 13cr


No more than 6cr total from Independent Study, Special Topics, or Internship applies to major; excess applied as free electives. No more than 4crs can come from 100-level courses. Excluding prerequisite, cognate, crimson core, college core courses, no more than two major’s courses can be shared between a major and minor.

Controlled Electives: 3-4


Ancillary Science Requirements: 15-16


Other Requirements:


With input from academic advisor, completion of at least four CITI modules in animal Biology.

Free Electives: 19-21


Free electives may be used towards a Biology Department Minor such as Animal Behavior, Biomedical Science, Environmental Microbiology, Forensic Biosciences, Neurobiology, Wildlife and Conservation Biology, or other minors of interest.

Total Degree Requirements: 120


(1) No more than 6cr total from Independent Study, Special Topics, or Internship applies to major; excess applied as free electives.

(2) No more than 4crs can come from 100-level courses. Excluding prerequisite, cognate, liberal studies, college core courses, no more than two major’s courses can be shared between a major and minor.

(3) With input from academic advisor, completion of at least four CITI modules in animal biology.     

(4) Free electives may be used towards a Biology department Minor such as Animal Behavior, Biomedical Science, Environmental Microbiology, Forensic Biosciences, Neurobiology, Wildlife and Conservation Biology, or other minors of interest.
