The goal of the B.S. in Accounting program is to provide our students with technical and practical skills needed to meet the challenges of a career in the accounting profession. BS in Accounting program has earned supplemental AACSB accreditation for its high quality. The program develops and enhances a student’s critical thinking, ethical behavior, and communication and decision-making skills, while providing a strong technical foundation. Accounting majors complete courses in financial reporting system design and analysis, managerial accounting, data analytics, taxation, internship in accounting, and forensic accounting leading to career opportunities in public, industry, and government accounting.

As outlined in the Crimson Core Requirements   with the following specifications:

Total Degree Requirements: 120


(1) No courses fulfilling any Crimson Core requirements may count simultaneously either as Business Administration Core or Accounting Major courses; alternatively, no courses used to fulfill Eberly Business Administration Core or Accounting Major courses may count simultaneously towards fulfilling any Crimson Core requirements. For example, Accounting majors must take ITMG 110 as an Eberly Business Administration Core requirement, so ITMG 110 cannot be used to satisfy any Crimson Core requirements.

(2) Up to three credits of ACCT 493 Accounting Internship may count towards fulfilling Accounting Major Controlled Elective credits, and up to 6 additional credits may count towards free electives.

(3) Students must meet the grade prerequisite(s) listed in the course description section of this catalog before advancing to the next course.

(4) Students interested in pursuing the following career paths should consider:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA): ACCT 422 , ACCT 441 , ACCT 493 , and BLAW 336 . Students seeking certification as a CPA will be required to satisfy the educational requirement of 150cr. Students can take CPA exam with 120 credit hours. Currently need 150 hours for CPA practice license.

Certified Management Accountant (CMA): ACCT 412 , ACCT 432 , ACCT 461 , ACCT 493  

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE): ACCT 432 , ACCT 493 , CRIM 101 , ECON 223 .

(5) Students may be able to apply these credits in conjunction with the controlled electives to earn a minor in another discipline, such as finance, marketing, economics, and pre-law. Students should follow the advice of their faculty advisor to fulfill the above requirements.
